Get to know LunaChar

LunaChar grew out of a farm experiment that got out of hand — in the best possible way. In 2012, my wife and I bought a five-acre patch of land on Vashon Island. We thought we’d put in a garden, maybe raise a few chickens. How hard could it be? Pretty soon we had 75 chickens, an orchard of cider apples, a lavender field, a greenhouse, bees, and a shed full of tractors and implements.

What started as a weekend project became Blue Moon Farm — and a crash course in soil, resilience, and humility.

Through it all, one lesson stood out: healthy soil is everything. Good crops, strong animals, clean water — they all begin in the ground. And like many farmers, I discovered firsthand how modern practices can strip soil faster than it can recover.

That’s one of the things that set me down the path toward biochar and wood vinegar. These weren’t just curiosities from old farm journals — they worked. Our seeds sprouted faster, our plants grew sturdier, our compost finished sooner. The farm itself was the proof.

LunaChar is how we share that proof. Backed by our parent company, Regenerative Industrial, Inc., we take Pacific Northwest softwoods — the same ones that built our region — and refine them into pure, high-performance biochar and wood vinegar. Every batch is engineered for low ash, balanced pH, and maximum effectiveness. They’re simple, natural tools with deep roots in farming traditions around the world, now made with modern precision.

We created LunaChar for growers of all kinds: backyard gardeners, family farms, orchards, vineyards, even large-scale operations. Whether you’re raising tomatoes, tending vines, or restoring a pasture, LunaChar is designed to make your soil stronger, your plants more resilient, and your work a little easier — while helping lock carbon safely in the ground.

This is what “regenerative” means to us: practical solutions that give more than they take. And while I’m proud to be the face of LunaChar, the real story is bigger than me. It’s about farmers, gardeners, and stewards everywhere who are building healthier soil and a cleaner future, one field at a time.

About LunaChar

We believe working the land should restore it, not deplete it. Whether you tend a backyard garden, manage a family farm, raise livestock, or steward forest ground, the soil beneath your feet is the foundation of everything. Every gallon of LunaChar wood vinegar and every bag of biochar we make comes from Pacific Northwest forests and mills, using clean pyrolysis to transform local biomass into products that give back more than they take.

Our work is informed by our home in the Pacific Northwest, where heavy rains leave soils acidic, forests and farms stand side by side, and the land has always provided. We turn local sawmill waste into tools that fit these conditions — natural, safe, and effective for vegetables, orchards, flowers, and livestock alike. The result is a simple proposition: healthier soil, healthier crops, and healthier land.

Our work is grounded in simple principles: healthier soil, stronger plants, and closed-loop systems that turn waste into abundance. When growers use LunaChar, they’re not just improving yields — they’re improving the land itself.

We also hold a broader vision: what we call sovereign soil systems. Soil that is resilient, self-sustaining, and independent of fragile global supply chains. Soil that can nourish families, communities, and ecosystems for generations. It’s not just about productivity; it’s about restoring fertility, reducing chemical dependence, and reclaiming stewardship of the ground beneath us.

That vision guides every decision we make:

  • Soil Health First – Products that build microbial life, improve water retention, and lock carbon into the ground.
  • Closed Loops – Turning local sawmill waste into biochar and wood vinegar that cycle nutrients back into gardens and farms.
  • Sustainable Sourcing – Biomass harvested responsibly and processed with carbon-negative pyrolysis.
  • Access for All Growers – From backyard gardeners to family farms, tools that are safe, affordable, and easy to use.
  • Community Resilience – Supporting growers in Lewis County and across the Pacific Northwest as they build systems that feed people and regenerate land.

Our land has given to us for generations — food from the fields, timber from the forests, fish from the rivers, game from the hills. It has fed families, built towns, and sustained a nation. Now it’s our turn to give something back.

With LunaChar, every grower can take part in that stewardship: working with the land, not against it, taking cues from nature itself. Forest fires taught us vinegar. Forest floors taught us biochar. Together, they point the way toward soils that endure — soils that provide today and stay fertile for the generations to come.
